Orthodontics

Straighten your smile.

what is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of problems relating to the alignment of teeth and jaws. Unfortunately, not everyone is born with perfectly aligned teeth, which can lead to speech problems, abnormal tooth wear or gum disease, but orthodontic treatment is designed to fix the alignment. Treatment involves the wearing of orthodontic appliances, such as braces or Invisalign.

The clearer way to a straighter smile. A series of custom-made plastic trays are moulded to an individual’s teeth for a discreet straightening option people will only notice when you’re telling them how good they are!

Fast braces

A quick alternative to traditional braces. Fast Braces use triangular brackets to move the entire tooth, top to bottom, simultaneously. Fast Braces are a low friction, low sensitivity alternative.

Inman Aligner

The simple solution for front teeth crowding. The Inman Aligner is a removable plate that gently guides front teeth to an ideal position in a matter of weeks using two spring-powered bows.

When to see an orthodontist

Ideally, we recommend having an initial orthodontic consultation by age 7. This helps our children’s orthodontist get an idea of what issues may arise, and they can use preventive health care measures to direct teeth placement properly as early as possible.

However, not everyone will have had one of these consultations when they are young. People at any age can still receive important treatment with teenager and adult orthodontics. An orthodontic exam typically includes an assessment of your dental history, taking a plaster model of your teeth, and performing a dental X-ray.

Types of Orthodontics

Fixed Orthodontics

Fixed orthodontic appliances, such as braces, involve wearing brackets that attach to your teeth and are connected by archwires that cannot be removed. These appliances work constantly on your teeth to transform and align their placement over time. Fixed appliances may be necessary for significant or severe orthodontic issues.

Conditions Orthodontics are known for treating include:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Teeth crowding

Removable Orthodontics

Removable orthodontic appliances, like Invisalign, involve wearing aligners that are custom-fitted to your teeth and can be taken out when eating or at any necessary time. These appliances are typically quicker in their treatment but are not well-suited to treating complex orthodontic needs.

Orthodontics for children

In the early years, a child’s head and mouth are more responsive to movement and change. Early orthodontics allows a specialist to observe how teeth are forming and emerging, and any underlying issues that are not readily visible. Kids orthodontics typically only include small adjustments to improve a child’s developing bite.

Orthodontics for teens

In the teen years, most people will have all of their final (or adult) teeth emerge, meaning they can begin wearing an orthodontic appliance like an aligner or braces. While we recommend having a consultation before these years, teen orthodontics is typically when most treatment occurs, and also when it performs at its best.

Orthodontics for adults

While orthodontic treatments may be most effective in children, there is no age limit on improving your smile. Adults can correct crooked teeth, fill gaps, or get a complete makeover with the help of orthodontic appliances.
